Frances Louise Grimes

December 28, 1935 — March 16, 2021

Frances Louise Grimes passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, on March 16, 2021, at the age of 85. Louise was born on December 28, 1935 to Annie Osborne and William Donald Fullwood in Conway, South Carolina, the oldest of two children. As a young girl, Louise's family relocated to Charleston, South Carolina, where she attended Murray Vocational School and met her beloved husband of more than 66 years, Dannie, while he attended Porter Military Academy.

After marrying on December 25, 1954, the young couple lived in downtown Charleston before moving to Johns Island to raise their three children: Michael, Nicholas, and Cheryl. Once the children were grown, Louise and Dannie moved to their home of nearly four decades on James Island.

A hard worker, Louise began her career in office administration at Atlantic Coast Life Insurance and the Charleston Air Force Base before working for Nabisco for more than 25 years. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was an active member of James Island Baptist Church for many years. Louise enjoyed traveling to new and far-off places, including Egypt, Moscow, and Hong Kong. She loved nature and some of her favorite days were spent on the river or in her garden, her porch and garden beds overflowing with colorful blooms and homegrown vegetables. A self-taught cook, Louise was renowned for her Southern cuisine, including oyster stew, banana pudding, and pecan pie - to name a few favorites.

Louise is survived by her husband Dannie Grimes (Charleston, SC), son Nicholas Grimes (Summerville, SC) and daughter Cheryl Grimes (Murrells Inlet, SC), as well as three grandsons: Nicholas Grimes (Charlotte, N.C.), Daniel Grimes (Summerville, SC) and Justin Grimes (SC). She is predeceased by her son, Michael Grimes, and brother, James Fullwood.

Louise was a strong, compassionate, and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Her graveside service will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 11:00 am, in the Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Rd., Charleston, SC 29414.
