Burke Morat

Westminster Presbyterian Church
Starts at 2:00 pm (Eastern time)
Frances Laverne Faulkner Burke Morat was born on June 6, 1925, in Wynne, Arkansas to Robert and Tessie Belle Faulkner and died on May 18, 2026, at home in Charleston, South Carolina.
Frances was the middle child of five; four girls and one boy. Her father worked for the railroad. One of her favorite childhood memories was taking the train to Mississippi to visit her grandparents and spend the summer with cousins. As a young woman working in Memphis, Tennessee, she met a man from Lowell, Massachusetts, Frederick Burke. This was the beginning of her life as the wife of an Air Force pilot and officer. Fran and Fred lived in many places: Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Texas, Washington, California, and Japan. They had two children, Dana and Alan. In 1960, they were transferred to Charleston, South Carolina where Fred retired as USAF Lieutenant Colonel and later died in 1969. Fran worked part-time at the Coca Cola plant in downtown Charleston after Fred’s death. She was introduced a few years later to retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel C.D. Morat. David was a long-time bachelor from Kentucky. They married and bought a home in Charleston in 1976. Fran and David were members of The Country Club of Charleston where they enjoyed socializing with friends, and she played with a ladies 9-hole golf group.
Fran was a devoted and active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was a consistent fixture on the back row. Over the years, she served as a deacon, volunteered with the youth group and the fellowship hospitality committee for wonderful Wednesday dinners. She was also their namesake for their annual golf tournament in which she participated.
Fran was known for her fun feisty personality, clever sense of humor, as well as her love and devotion to her family and friends.
Frances is survived by her daughter, Dana Swan of Charleston, South Carolina; her grandchildren, Lisa Blewer (Sam Asey) of Charleston, South Carolina and Amy Galleguillos of Fort Mill, South Carolina; her great-grandchildren, Brittany Lapin (Todd) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Bella, Jason, and Hayden Galleguillos of Fort Mill, South Carolina; her great-great-grandsons, Kai and Coast Lapin of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; and her sister, Margaret Williams (Fred) of Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles David Morat and her son, Alan Burke.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church (Fellowship Fund) 1157 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard Charleston South Carolina 29407 or Family Hospice 112 Rutledge Avenue Suite A Charleston South Carolina 29401.
Her celebration of life will be on her birthday, June 6, at 2:00 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church. It will also be livestreamed on the church’s website.
