Foster Charles Clark

September 10, 1920 — June 26, 2010

Foster Charles Clark 89, husband of Carol Clark, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2010.  All services will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR  MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Mr. Clark was born September 10, 1920 in La Grange, Illinois to the late Charles H. Clark and Ellen E. Clark.  A graduate of Purdue University, he received his Masters Degree from Rutgers University. Foster worked in the aerospace industry for more than 25 years, primarily with the Curtiss-Wright Corp. as an engineer and marketing manager. Among his achievements, he designed the control systems for the electric propellers used on many military aircraft during the Second World War and on commercial aircraft after the war.


Foster and his family moved to the Charleston area in 1968 when he was asked to join the management team at the newly opened Avco-Lycoming facility. After that facility closed, he worked at the Seabrook Island Co., the Isle of Palms Beach and Racquet Club Co. and finally Wild Dunes Associates.  He retired as Vice President of Operations at Wild Dunes. Foster was an active member of The Exchange Club for 42 years, having participated in The Exchange Club of Isle of Palms and The Exchange Club of Charleston. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol, passing away just five days prior to their 60th wedding anniversary; his children, Douglas Clark and his wife, Susan of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Diane Clark Cason and her husband, Russell of Peachtree City, GA, Dennis Clark and his wife, Leslie of North Augusta, SC, and Donald Clark and his wife, Marjorie of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his grandchildren, Michael Clark and his wife, Amy of Charleston, Katherine Clark Green and her husband, Tom of Anchorage, AK, Deborah Clark of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Melanie Clark of Mt. Pleasant, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Exchange Club of Charleston Foundation, P.O. Box 120, Ladson, SC 29456
