Forrest Metz Shealy, 90, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Dorothy S. Shealy passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2015. His Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 13, 2015 in the All Saints Lutheran Church, 2107 Highway 17 N. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, June 13, 2015 from 1:00 pm until the beginning of the service. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Forrest was born January 27, 1925 in Chapin, South Carolina, son of the late Forrest McKeetha Shealy and Myrtie Metz Shealy. He was retired from Southern Bell where he served as a Manager. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served his country during World War II. He was one of the first to land on the beach at Normandy and participated in seven amphibious assaults in both the Atlantic and Pacific. Forrest was a Mason. He was an Eagle Scout. A long-time Scout leader, he received national leadership awards from the Boy Scouts of America and the Lutheran Church in America. Forrest was a business and civic leader and was instrumental in establishing St. Matthias Lutheran Church in Easley, SC. He was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Mount Pleasant.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy S. Shealy of Mount Pleasant, SC; his daughter, Joyce Shealy Nicholas, PhD and her children, Sarah E. Ory and her husband, Jonathan along with their children, Jonathan and Clara, and Katherine S. Nicholas; his son, Ralph M. Shealy, MD and his wife, Lynn of Mount Pleasant, SC and their children, Kimberly Shealy Bowers, MD and her husband, Raymond along with their children, Caroline and Will, Kristen M. Shealy, Forrest B. Shealy, and Allison Shealy Carnevale and her husband, Christopher; and his sisters, Elsye Erdin of North Carolina and LeDoris Martin of Indianapolis, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Lutheran Church, 2107 Highway 17 N., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466.
