Elsie Faye Rogers was born on July 28, 1926 in Ridgeville, SC to the late Evelyn Hargrove Rogers and Claude Rogers. She was a country girl who loved to ride horses, was athletic, and wonderfully strong-willed. Faye graduated from Stetson University in DeLand, FL where she majored in psychology and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. After college, she returned home and taught school, then worked as a secretary until she met the love of her life, Henry Edward Tiencken. They were married in November of 1952 and had three children, Jane, Charlotte and Buzzy. She and "Tink" lived in Hobcaw Point, Mt. Pleasant and in old Mt. Pleasant until his death in 1996.
Faye was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Her faith and her family were the most important things in her life. She had a wicked sense of humor and loved people. She especially loved shopping for shoes with her best friends, Naomi Kennedy and her sister Charlotte Rogers. She adored her home town of Charleston. In 2009 she made the decision to move to Vashon Community Care (VCC) on Vashon Island, Washington to be closer to her daughter, Charlotte. She was loved by the staff at the VCC and will be missed. They called her their "Steel Magnolia".
Faye is survived by her children: Jane Tiencken Mengel (Bill), Charlotte Marie Tiencken (Bill West) and Henry "Buzzy" Edward Tiencken, Jr. (Josie); her siblings: Claude A. Rogers, Charlotte R. Rogers, and R. Kent Rogers; her grandchildren: Corie Tiencken, Andrew Mengel and John Mengel; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made in her honor to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 604 Pitt Street, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 or to Vashon Community Care, 15333 Vashon Highway SW, Vashon, WA 98070.
