Faye Rabinowitz Olasov

June 13, 1925 — December 11, 2019

Faye Rabinowitz Olasov, 94, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Sanford Patla Olasov to whom she was married for 60 years, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2019. Services will be held at the graveside at 12:00 p.m., Friday, December 13, 2019 at Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Cemetery, Huguenin Avenue. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

Faye was born June 13, 1925 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Louis Rabinowitz and Rosalie Prystowsky Rabinowitz. She graduated from the College of Charleston where she was business manager and editor of the yearbook, as well as president of the Dramatic Society. She was at the center of the Charleston Jewish community both professionally and personally. She worked from 1966 to 2005 at the Charleston Jewish Community Center in various leadership roles including interim director, director of adult activities, editor of the newsletter, and beloved manager of the Sherman House.

She was perhaps best known for her popular monthly column through which members of the community shared important news in their lives.She nurtured her creative side by painting and writing; she would write a rhyming poem for every birthday and event. Her warmth and social gaiety made her a great host to friends and family, and all were welcome at her table. She was beloved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her sister, Elsa Raven of Hollywood, California; two daughters, Dr. Barbara Rothbaum and her husband John of Atlanta, GA and Judv Olasov of San Francisco, CA; her son William Olasov and his wife Christine of Charleston, SC and her daughter-in-law Lucinda Olasov of Charleston, SC. She is also survived by her grandchildren Lyssa, Becka, Jenna, Lauren, Alex, Jake, and Belvin, and three great-granddaughters.

Faye was preceded in death by her son Nathan Olasov, grandson Anthony Olasov, and son-in-law John Ferrara.
