Fay Rephan Solomon

Fay Rephan Solomon, wife of the late Irving Solomon, passed away on March 10. She was born in Charleston, SC and was the daughter of Hyman and Florence (Fass) Rephan and was a proud Charlestonian for 96 years. She graduated from Memminger High School and North Carolina Women's College, now University of North Carolina - Greensboro . As an active member of her community, Fay served as President of Hadassah of Synagogue Emanu-El and played an active role in theatrical and political events in the city. As one of the founding members of The Footlight Players, she appeared in productions of classics like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Women and To Kill A Mockingbird. She produced and directed plays at the JCC including The Tenth Man and I am a Camera. Her last on stage appearance was in a supporting role when she was 85.

Fay combined her interests in business and fashion by owning and managing two successful stores: Kahn's Boutique in Myrtle Beach and Vice and Versa on King St. in Charleston. Women and girls from all around the state came to be dressed and accessorized for proms and weddings in her shops. She also excelled as a hostess, giving memorable parties throughout her life.

Fay is survived by a son, Jeremy Solomon (Martha) of Charleston, SC, a daughter, Tammy Conner of Hollywood, SC, sister Rachel Ginsberg (Phil) of New York City, NY, grandchildren Jamie Stampar, Micah Conner (Chelsea) and Abbie O'Malley ( Robert) and Great Grandchildren, Daniel, Kai, Palmer, Juliette Stampar, Autumn Conner and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Her extended family includes dear friend Yvonne Maxwell, husband Bobby and their children and grandchildren who loved and cared for her and added so much joy and fun to her life for the past 7 years.

Her funeral service was held graveside Sunday at Emanul-El Cemetery (Maryville) . Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fay's memory may be sent to PURE Theater Charleston, SC 29403.
