Everett Eugene Vaughn, Sr. 93, of North Charleston, SC, widower of Barbara Mullinax Vaughn, entered into eternal rest peacefully at home in Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday, July 30,2014 relatives and friends of Mr. Vaughn are invited to attend the funeral service in St. Thomas Episcopal Church,Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 11:00 o clock. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR INC., NORTH AREA CHAPEL, 2119 Dorchester Road, this Friday evening from six until eight o clock.
Everett was born December 15,1920 in Nashville, Tennessee, son of Elmer G. and Ellen Vaughn Sr. He moved to Charleston at the beginning of World War II with his father and brother to work at the Charleston Naval Base, where he would meet the love of his life, Barbara Mullinax. Mr. Vaughn joined the Army/Air Corp during WWII and retired at the rank of Corporal. He later served his country in the South Carolina National Guard and The Army Reserve, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant and later retired after 38 years of service from the Army Depot in Charleston. Mr. Vaughn was a member and devoted parishioner of St. Thomas Episcopal Church for 72 years.
Mr. Vaughn was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Mullinax Vaughn; a son, Everett Eugene Vaughn, Jr.; his brother, Elmer G. Vaughn, Jr; his sister, Marjorie V. Williamson; and beloved companion Spencer, his Yorkshire Terrier. Surviving Mr. Vaughn are his two daughters, Nancy Vaughn Altschul and her husband Chuck of Mt. Pleasant and Brenda Vaughn Anderson and her husband Jim of St. Augustine, Florida; and a son, Larry Mullinax Vaughn and his wife Becky of North Charleston. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, William A. Vaughn (Terri), James A. Brown, III (Tonya), Todd E. Brown, Katie A. Sharman (Pete), Hope B. Gamble (Rob), Melissa V. Polutta (Jeff), James A. Anderson, Jr. Drew (Deana), Shannon V. Hodges (Coleman), Matthew C. Vaughn, and Stephen V. Anderson; as well as ten great grandchildren, Jessica Brown, Elizabeth Brown, Styles Bailey, Jordan Brown, Hunter Chancellor, Jacob Brown, Wells Gamble, Woods Gamble, Abigail Brown and Morgan Sharman; and his special friend and caregiver Cindy Walters. The family wishes to thank Aileen Pullaro, RN with Lutheran Hospice for her loving care. Mr. Vaughn will be remembered by his family and friends as a dear gentle soul that loved his family without condition and never missed a chance to sneak a sweet.
