Everett Elby Singletary, 92, of Yonges Island, SC, husband of the late Evelyn Maxwell Singletary, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 18, 1931 in Sandridge Community, Berkeley County, SC, Everett was a son of the late Clarence Elby Singletary and Florie Myers Singletary.
Everett attended Cross High School, where he graduated after completing the 11th grade. He delighted in being a 4H member, raising his own drove of pigs. Everett enlisted into the U.S. Army on July 1, 1951. He was stationed in Japan and served during the Korean War. Everett worked with his father, and for a logging business, for a short time before working as a mechanic and parts manager for Souther Chevrolet for several years. He then started his career at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, where he continued to advance until his retirement at the age of 62 as a nuclear crane inspector.
Everett married the love his life, Evelyn Maxwell Singletary, on March 27, 1954. They were happily married for 67 years.
Everett was an active member of the First Baptist Church of St. Paul’s Parish, where he served as a deacon. He was a strong man of faith and was committed to serving his Lord and Savior. After the Church closed, Everett and Evelyn became members of West Ashley Independent Baptist Church.
Everett and Evelyn enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Everett is survived by his sister Hazel Rast of Charleston, SC; his two daughters, Elizabeth Singletary-Carter (James) of Yonges Island, SC; Pamela Singletary of Yonges Island, SC; four grandchildren, Jason Tarokh, Joshua Tarokh, Anna Middleton, and Phillip Middleton; nine great-grandchildren, Emma, Layne, Sophia, Kennley, Evelyn, Alice, Ford, Everett, and Adalinda.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 20, 2024 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel at 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 1 P.M. The funeral service will be immediately after at 2 P.M. Interment will follow at Christ St. Paul’s Cemetery.
