Evelyn Benton Schafer

Evelyn Benton Schafer, 100, of Johns Island, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Her Memorial Urn Burial will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025 in the Carolina Memorial Park, 7113 Rivers Avenue at 2:30 pm. The family will receive friends Friday, September 26, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel.

Evelyn was born March 17, 1925 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late James Perry Benton and Gladys Bowers Benton. She was a follower of Christ all of her life and devoted to reading the scriptures daily. Evelyn was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by daughter, Helen Thomas of Johns Island, SC, and daughter-in-law, Cynthia Zorn Thomas; two sons, David (Theresa) Thomas, Mark Thomas; grandchildren, Lauren (Michael) Marra, Amy (Tyler) Gresham, Melita Thomas, and Nathan (Christine) Thomas; great-grandsons, William Marra, Henry Marra, Jacob Thomas, and Jesse Thomas; and nieces, Michelle Shank, Patricia Benton, Sharon Helps, Lynn Foster, and Leigh Ann Hardwick; nephews, Rodney Benton, James Snow, Grey Minshew, and John Benton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Dean Benton and Perry Benton; sisters, Mell Snow and Nell Minshew.

Memorials may be made to Life Church of Charleston.
