Evelyn Robertson King, 92, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Samuel Blackwell King entered into eternal rest Monday, February 18, 2013. Her Funeral Services will be held Thursday, February 21, 2013 in the Second Presbyterian Church , 342 Meeting Street at 2:00 p.m. Interment, Churchyard . The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Evelyn was born December 26, 1920 in Suffolk, Virginia, daughter of Bennett B. Robertson and Clara Newsome Robertson. She was a graduate of Flora McDonald College and member of the Second Presbyterian Church. During her life she served as President of the Women of the Church as well as Historian for the Second Presbyterian Church. There she taught Sunday school and many Bible classes. She was President of La Sertoma of Charleston and also International President. Evelyn and her husband, Sam, helped start the Charles Webb Center of Charleston.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and had a smile for everyone who crossed her path.
She is survived by two sons; Samuel B. King, Jr., David B.King and his wife Carrie both of Charleston, SC; two daughters, Robbie King Staubes of Mount Pleasant, SC, Nancy C. King of Charleston, SC; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Jenni King Moore and two grandchildren, Ryan DeWitt Staubes and Caroline Shawn Burkard.
