Evelyn Hiers Hair, 86, of Daniel Island, South Carolina, widow of Sammie Hair and Gordon Martin II entered into eternal rest Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 30 ,2014 in First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant 681 McCants Drive, Mt. Pleasant, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR INC., Northwoods CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston Friday, August 29, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Evelyn was born November 12, 1927 in Olar, SC, daughter of the late Laurie F. Hiers and Florrie Dyches Hiers. She was a retired Budget Analyst with Charleston Naval Shipyard an was an active member of First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant. She was a voluntary home missionary for Southern Baptist Convention, served as treasurer of Baker Hospital Auxiliary and was Granny for 2nd grade North Charleston Elementary School.
She is survived by her three sons, Dennis L. Hair of North Charleston, SC, Glenn A. Hair and Kevin L. Hair both of Daniel Island, SC; sister, Brenda Widener of Kingsport, TN; eight grandchildren, Selena Hair Barfield, Shannon Hair Hodges, Misty Walker Feher, April L. Hair, Justin T. Hair, Rebecca M. Hair, Brandon Hair, Terri Hair Villar and ten great-grandchildren. Evelyn is preceded in death by her daughter, Terri Hair Walker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Magic Beans Corp, 3319 Esters Road #2095, Irving, TX 75062, a ministry that is "dedicated to providing the basic necessities to the children of Haiti" or to Empowering Haitian Moms, PO Box 4142 Chesterfield, MO 63006, a ministry that is committed to "glorifying God by strengthening and stabilizing Haitian families by creating self sufficient homes and communities by sharing the Gospel, teaching trades, and empowering dependency on God alone".
