Eula Louise Horres, 93, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Charles Russell Horres, Sr. entered into eternal rest Saturday, November 4, 2017. Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2017 in John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Highway at 3:00 p.m. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Eula was born August 8, 1924 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late James Oscar Smith and Marion Emma Likes Smith. She attended James Simmons Elementary, the Memminger School for Girls and Palmer Business College. For a number of years she was the administrative assistant for Paulsen Engineering. She and Russell were married on October 17, 1943 for almost 73 years.
Eula was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church for over 60 years and served the church in numerous capacities including as President of the John Wesley United Methodist Women. Earlier this year a women's circle was named in her honor.
Possessing an indomitable sense of humor, Eula will be long remembered for her love of family, bridge, sumptuous family meals and many family vacations and adventures at Honey-Do on Lake Marion.
She is survived by three sons: Russell (Mary), Donald (Terry) of Mt. Pleasant and Randall (Renee) of James Island; sister, Eleanor Smith Simpson of Mt. Pleasant; and sisters-in-law: Lorraine Evans of Charleston and Marilyn Horres of Aiken; seven grandchildren: Julie Gillett (Donny) of Cainhoy, Paige Horres of Mt. Pleasant, Eric Shade (Jill) of Marietta, GA, Erin Sadler (Matt) of Dunwoody, GA, Dr. Russell Horres III of Durham, NC, Ravenel and Stiles Horres of James Island; five great-grandchildren: Reilly Owens of Mt. Pleasant, Kate, Jack, and Cole Shade of Marietta, GA and Emerson Sadler of Dunwoody, GA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her brothers: Vernon and James Oscar Smith and sisters: Adele Mueller and Edna Andrews.
The family would like to thank her caregivers: Rosetta Polite, Renee Horres, and Hospice of Charleston.
