Eugene "Gene" E. Roberts III, 75, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Kathryn Blackard Roberts, died Monday, August 29, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 2, 2016 in St. Andrew's Church , 440 Whilden Street, Mount Pleasant at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd., and immediately following the service at the church in Sam's Hall.

Gene was born April 8, 1941 in Charleston, son of the late Eugene E. Roberts, Jr. and Carolyn Annette Zeigler Roberts. He graduated from The Citadel in 1963 and was commissioned into the U. S. Army in October 1963 as a Second Lieutenant stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. In January 1964, he was transferred to Fort Carson, Colorado where he served his tour in the 4th Squadron, 12th Armored Cavalry attaining the rank of Captain before his discharge. After his tour ended, he served in the Army Reserves. Gene then returned to the family business that was started by his great-grandfather, John Hilson Roberts in 1871 and worked for over 50 years at Roberts Supply Co. Inc. in Charleston until the 144 year old business closed in February of 2015. He was an active member at St. Andrew's Church, Mount Pleasant and volunteered with Alpha and numerous other church programs for over 15 years.

In addition to his wife, Kathy, he is survived by his children, Eugene E. Roberts IV (Kelly), Danny Roberts, Melissa Bian (David), Jenkins R. Roberts, Lawton Roberts, and his step-daughter Lisa Floyd Cartin (Jason); nine grandchildren, Carly, Daniel, David, Michael, Steeley, Sarah, Eliza, Margaret, and William; and his brother, John Randel Roberts.
