Eugene (Gene) D. Rice

Eugene D. Rice, 88, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Margaret (Maude) R. Duca Rice, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. His Funeral Service will be held Sunday, February 12, 2023 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 3:00 pm, and the family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens.

Gene was born October 5, 1934 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, son of the late Arthur Rice and LaVerne Clevenger Rice. Gene was a U.S. Army veteran from the Fourth Infantry Division. Gene was retired after 34 years of service with the Bethlehem Steel Corp.  He was a hunter, and especially loved trap shooting. Gene will be remembered as a good husband, father, and grandfather.  Gene and Maude ended a union of 58 years.

In addition to his wife, Gene is survived by his son, Mark Rice; daughter, Darla Pritchard (Hank); beloved grandchildren, John Pritchard III and Alyssa Pritchard; nieces and nephews, Alan Meden (Darlene), Regina Mehallick (Jim), and Brian Meden (Jeanne); and great nieces and nephews, Alina, Lia, Falco, Lizzie, and Elliott.
