Eugene Farmer Hesse, Jr., 79, of Charleston, husband of Joan Beckmann Hesse, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 4, 2026 at J. Henry Stuhr Funeral Home, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mount Pleasant at 2:00 pm.

Gene was born on July 17, 1947 in Charleston, SC, the son of the late Eugene Farmer Hesse and Elizabeth Calder Hesse. He graduated from Bishop England in 1965. He attended The Citadel before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps and graduating from boot camp at Parris Island.

Gene spent most of his life in Charleston. He was a partner in Clarey's Liquors for many years with his close friend and Bishop England classmate, Billy Clarey. Before retiring, Gene was a manager at Forsberg's Wine and Spirits. He was an avid golfer.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Joseph Ernest Hesse. In addition to his wife, Joan, he is survived by his daughter Rebecca Suzanne Hesse (Shane); his son Thomas Farmer Hesse; and his brothers Thomas Hayden Hesse (Pam) and John Timothy Hesse.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
