Mrs. Fowler was born September 3, 1926 in Charleston, the daughter of George Washington Seabrook, Jr. and Eudora Sosnowski Seabrook. She was raised on Edisto Island, and lived there until World War II, when the family moved to Charleston. She was a graduate of Memminger High School and attended Columbia College, where she met the young midshipman who would become her husband in November of 1945. As a Navy wife, she lived up and down the east coast, from Key West, Florida to Newport, Rhode Island, but Charleston was always home. After her husband Bill retired from the Navy, they moved back to the low country she loved, becoming some of the first residents of modern Kiawah Island. They lived on the island for almost 30 years and were active in the formation of the Town of Kiawah. They thoroughly enjoyed the social scene of the community and were involved in many supper clubs where she could share favorite recipes and utilized her love of cooking.
She is survived by two sons: William Earl Fowler, Jr. and his wife, Catherine, of Warner Robins, GA and Alan Jackson Fowler of Kiawah Island, SC. She was predeceased by her brother, LtCol. George Washington Seabrook III USA (Ret.). Her memory will be cherished by three granddaughters: Catherine Seabrook, Victoria Townsend, and Sarah Elizabeth; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Johns Island Presbyterian Church, 2550 Bohicket Road, Johns Island, SC 29455 or St. John's Parish Church, 3673 Maybank Highway, Johns Island, SC 29455.
