Eudora "Dora" Hudson Hester, 84, of North Charleston, South Carolina, wife of the late Charles Wesley Hester entered into eternal rest Sunday, June 7, 2026. Her funeral service will be held Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Highland Park Baptist Church, 6211 Murray Drive at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston, SC.

Dora was born September 2, 1941, in Ridgeland, South Carolina, daughter of the late James Armand Hudson and the late Mary Mears Hudson. She shared her love for youth and recreation through her career with Cooper River Parks and Playground and later retired from Portside Baptist Church. Most recently, she was an active, devoted member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Dora lived out her faith through her leadership, serving passionately as the Women’s Missions Union Director, teaching Mission Friends and Girls in Action (GAs), and supporting various church groups. The Lord was her first love, with her husband right behind Him.

Dora was a true bright light in our world who loved all people deeply and unconditionally. She truly never met a stranger, and her genuine warmth made everyone feel like family from the moment they met her. A deeply loyal and faithful woman, Dora poured her heart into serving others through her community, schools, and faith.

She is survived by a sister, Mandy Wade (Mike) of Seabrook, SC; a sister in law, Cheryl Youmans; a son, Charles "Chip" W. Hester, Jr. (Sally) of North Charleston, SC; daughters: Denise Hester Bessinger of N. Charleston, SC and Alyce Hester Kennedy (Sean) of Hanahan, SC; grandchildren: Megan Fontenot (Ryan Campbell), Hunter Bessinger (Jordan Piacente), Haley Hester Kramer (Will), Wesley Kennedy (Kimmie Edwards), and Abigail Mueller (Hunter); great-children: Birdie Grey Campbell, Hudson James Campbell, Lily Ann Kramer, Kit Eudora Kramer, and Audrey Alyce Mueller. Surviving is also several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Hudson Rowland.

Memorials may be made to Highland Park Baptist Church designated to the General Fund and/or the Missions Fund, 6211 Murray Drive, Hanahan, SC 29410.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Keogh and his care team at Charleston Oncology for taking care of their mother for the past 2 and a half years. The family would also like to express their gratitude to Crescent Hospice for the care they provided.
