Ethel Marie Roach, 95, of James Island, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Thursday, October 31, 2024. Her funeral service will be held Monday, November 11, 2024, at 10 am, in the J. Henry Stuhr Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. Interment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens in Charleston, SC.
Ethel was born August 9, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of the late Herbert C. Bohrer and Georgia A. Bauer Bohrer. Ethel’s passing was preceded by her husband, Prue S. Roach, in 1978. She is survived by her children, Cheryl Williams (Jack) of Richmond, VA; David Roach (Barbara) of Mount Pleasant, SC; Alan Roach (Devi) of Ormond Beach, FL; and Ronnie Roach (Sonja) of Manning, SC. She is also survived by her many grandchildren, Thomas Williams (Erin) of Henrico, VA; Laura Williams of Richmond, VA; Shaina Higgins (Ken) of Aynor, SC; Tamarae Tabaka (David) of Mt Pleasant, SC; Darlene Thurston(Joseph Aaron) of Madison, Al; Darla Tedesco (Joey) of Ormond Beach, FL; Carly Revier (Daniel) of Seattle, WA; Melody Stinchcomb (Mike) of Summerville, SC and Ryan McCorkle of Littleton, CO. In addition to her grandchildren, she is also survived by 23 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
Ethel was the oldest of 8 children, affectionately known as “Sissy.” She grew up in West Virginia and later Northern Virginia. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she worked as a cook for the area school cafeterias and other establishments. She was active in church and the community. Later in life, Ethel worked at Piggly Wiggly for over 20 years, retiring to enjoy her many hobbies such as gardening, bird watching, listening to music, and doing arts and crafts with her children and many grandchildren. Ethel had a particular affinity for Native American artifacts and history. She always welcomed family and guests and was a gracious host for many holidays and family gatherings. She will be dearly missed.
