Ethel Annies Poe, 91, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of the late James William Poe, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, February 14, 2023. Her Funeral Service will be held on February 21, 2023 at 11:00 am, at James Island Presbyterian Church, 1632 Fort Johnson Road. Interment to follow at James Island Presbyterian Churchyard. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to the service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Annies was born December 29, 1931 at 342 East Bay Street in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of Britton Mims Baxley, Jr. and Ethel Castens Baxley. She attended Memminger High School and was a graduate of Murray Vocational School. Along with creating a loving home, Annies was a very talented and amazing self-taught artist working in all painting mediums, clay sculptures, and crochet.
Annies loved her church; she taught Sunday School and Bible School; served on the Flower Committee; Volunteered at the church Thrift Store; a member of Circle; she loved to supply the Blessing Box.
She is survived by her three daughters, Alice Poe Fulton, Susan Poe (Stephen) Wiggins, Katherine Poe (Chris) Watts; six grandchildren, James Wiggins, Erin Wiggins, Austin Wiggins, Michael Carson, Stephen Carson, Mark Fulton; six great-grandchildren, Madelyn Carson, Maxwell Carson, Landon Wiggins, Sadie Wiggins, Kate Wiggins, Jasper Wiggins.
She leaves a legacy of being loved by others and loving others and sharing her wisdom. Her deep faith guided her life and is aptly expressed in 1 Corinthians 13;13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary, 5604 New Road, Hollywood, SC 29449 or Congregational Care Ministry James Island Presbyterian Church, 1632 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
