Estelle Caroline Ohlandt Johnson Lassiter, 96, of Charleston, South Carolina died peacefully Tuesday, January 24, 2023.  A private graveside service will be held at Magnolia Cemetery.  Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc.

Estelle was born June 23, 1926 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Frederick William Ohlandt and Estelle Burns Ohlandt.  She grew up at 14 Montagu Street in Charleston where she attended Bennett Elementary School and Memminger High School.  Estelle attended one year at the College of Charleston and graduated from Columbia College in Columbia, South Carolina with a major in English and minors in German and Music.

She married George Arthur Ziozias Johnson, Jr. in 1948 and moved into the Ohlandt family home at 12 Montagu Street.  Estelle was known for her outgoing personality and ability to inspire others.  She loved swimming, singing, and gardening.  Together Estelle and George acquired and restored over a dozen properties in the Harleston Village area of Charleston, where they were members of the Preservation Society and the Historic Charleston Foundation.  She was a lifetime member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she served as the Director of Christian Education, was a member of the Col. Lewis Sunday School Class, and the Monday Morning Circle. Estelle was an active member of the Republican Party, and spear-headed her husband’s successful campaign for City Council. She was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by Gov. Carroll Campbell in 1994.

Following her husband’s death in 1991, Estelle married Mack Daniel Lassiter who pre-deceased her.  She is also predeceased by her brothers: Frederick William Ohlandt, Jr. and John David Ohlandt.  

Estelle is survived by her children: Estelle Ohlandt Johnson Dukes, Margaret Irene Johnson Archambault (Ricky), George Arthur Ziozias Johnson III (Patty), and Frederick Steven Johnson; one brother, Deidrich Henry Ohlandt (Beth); grandchildren:  John Anthony Dukes, Jr., Frederick Steven Johnson, Jr., Michael Ziozias Johnson, Stephanie Johnson Sanders, Patricia Johnson Kirby, Caroline Johnson Kirkpatrick, James Vernon Piner, and Margaret Ziozias Archambault Sally; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church Music Fund, 57 Pitt Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
