Essie Mahoney Cammer, 87, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Eugene M. Cammer, entered into eternal rest Monday, March 24, 2014. Her Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Bethany United Methodist Church, 1853 Maybank Highway, James Island, SC, at 11:00 AM. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Essie was born September 26, 1926, on Sullivans Island, South Carolina, daughter of the late Cephas F. Mahoney and Essie Berry Mahoney and grew up in Mt. Pleasant. She graduated from General William Moultrie High School in 1943 and from the Columbia Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Hadstate, (Jim) of Goose Creek, SC, a son, Eugene "Gene" Murray Cammer, Jr. (Ellen) of Charleston, SC, four grandchildren, Jim Hadstate, Jr., Bob Cammer, Will Cammer and Sidney McLaughlin, three great-grandchildren, Jamie, Jack and Carson Hadstate, and numerous nieces and nephews.
