Ernestine Hill Paul, 93, of Charleston, SC entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 16, 2022. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., 232 Calhoun Street at 11:30 a.m. A private burial will be held following the service at Live Oak Memorial Garden.
Ernestine was born September 20, 1928 in Walterboro, South Carolina, daughter of the late Ernest Baker Hill & Rosalie Linder Hill.
She survived by her loving children: Suzanne P. Tillman, Patricia A. Paul and Thomas D. Paul (Rebecca); two grandchildren: Holly Gorman (Ryan) and Anna Freese (Scott); and four great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her grandson, Henry S. Paul. She Al leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Ernestine dearly loved all her family and friends.
Ernestine graduated from Winthrop College, Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was an elementary school teacher in the Charleston county school system for many years. Throughout her adult life, she strongly advocated for handicapped and special needs children and adults. She actively served in parent groups, participated in Charleston county disability board meetings, and represented Charleston county at state level advocacy meetings to better the lives of those with disabilities. She frequently attended events sponsored by The Citadel and the College of Charleston for adults with special needs with her daughter, Patty.
She was a good and faithful servant of our Lord and savior who attended Methodist and Lutheran churches throughout her life.
