Ernestine Martha James

March 19, 1929 — August 27, 2018

Ernestine "Tina" Martha Rumph James, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Aldine James, Jr. entered into eternal rest Monday, August 27, 2018. Her funeral service will be held at the graveside Saturday, September 1, 2018 in Bethany Cemetery, 10 Cunnington Avenue at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

Tina was born March 19, 1929 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Harry Legare Rumph and Bessie Harbison Rumph. She was a retired Banker in the commercial loan division. Following retirement, she worked at Charleston Collections Gift Shop. Tina was known for her gracious love of people, always pulled for the underdog and had an infectious laugh and positive outlook on life. Tina (Meme) spoiled everyone she knew, especially her grandkids, with fun, happiness and joy. She had a great sense of humor and made others laugh easily.

She was a lifelong member of St. Mark United Methodist Church where she taught children's Sunday School, was a member of United Methodist Women (UMW) and was involved with migrant worker missions. Tina loved reading and sharing the Bible, as this was a part of who she was.

The James family would like to thank the staff and residents of Ashley River Plantation for their love, kindness, friendship and care.

Tina is survived by her daughters: Elaine J. Gooch (Mike) and Lisa J. Lockwood; son, John James all of Charleston, SC; daughters-in-law: Lora James, Jamie Leamond James and Terri James; six grandchildren: Buddy James, Chris James, Parker Lockwood, Justin James, Jessica James Whitmire and Pauline James; two great-grandchildren; and her special lifetime friend, Linda Clement for her devotion and mischievous adventures.

Tina is preceded in death by two sons: Aldine James III (Dean) and Walter James.
