Ernest G. Rigney, Jr., 68, of North Charleston, SC, died Saturday, February 4, 2017. His funeral service will be held Thursday, February 9, 2017 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., North Area Chapel, 2119 Dorchester Road at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday one hour prior to the service.

Ernie was born January 10, 1949 son of Ernest G. Rigney, Sr. and Katherine Shelton Rigney. He was an Associate Professor of Sociology at the College of Charleston and also a member of Holmes Avenue Baptist Church.

He is survived by his uncle, Francis Shelton (Sandy) of Powhatan, VA; many cousins including, Wayne Jackson of North Charleston, SC and Alfie Shelton of Goose Creek, SC; and several nieces and nephews. He was a beloved professor and colleague.
