Ernest "Ernie" James McCrae, 80, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Claudia Joye McCrae entered into eternal rest Friday, November 15, 2019. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at J. Henry Stuhr, Mt. Pleasant Chapel 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Entombment will be private.
Born August 1, 1939 in Florence, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Gilbert James McCrae and the late Evelyn Fillyaw McCrae. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army and the South Carolina Army National Guard and was an expert marksman. Ernie was the market manager for Piggly Wiggly Northbridge and retired after more than 40 years of service. He was a Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast and played in numerous pool leagues. As an avid fisherman, he especially enjoyed shrimping with his best friend,Willie Horne. Most important to him was his wife and family. He was a caring and loving man, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who will be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Claudia; son, Larry Dean McCrae (Nancy); three daughters: Cheri Lynn Taylor (Doug), Tammi Dawn Mendiola (Bruce), Kristi Harleston; five grandchildren: Brandi Livingston (Jay), Hunter Bledsoe (Stacy), Noelle Taylor, Lauren McCrae, and Jordan McCrae; and three great grandchildren, Grayson Bledsoe, Logan Livingston and Adelynn Livingston; and sister, Andrea Burkey. He was preceded in death by his sister, Trisha Wimpee.
