IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ermene Elizabeth Bowick
Graham
February 25, 1926 – August 9, 2023
Ermene Elizabeth Bowick Graham, 97, of Summerville, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 9, 2023. Her funeral service will be held Tuesday August 15, 2023, in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc. West Ashley Chapel, at 11AM. Interment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends beginning one hour prior to the service.
Ermene was born February 25, 1926 in Jacksonville, Florida, daughter of the late Herman D. Bowick and the late Mable E. Singletary. Ermene graduated from Memminger High School in 1944 and was a regular member of the Memminger Lunch Bunch. She had a strong faith and was an active member of the Asbury-St. James United Methodist Church. Ermene worked at the Charleston Water Department for many years up until she retired to provide care for her mother and brother. She was always looking for ways to help others, such as giving blood. She was recognized numerous times by the Red Cross for her lifelong commitment to providing this life saving gift that helped so many people.
Ermene was an avid bowler, bowling in as many as three leagues at a time. She demonstrated her skill by winning the Texas state women’s championship for bowling and earning many other trophies over the years.
She also loved to cross stitch. She completed 12 Charleston Rainbow Rows and gave them to friends and family, who still treasure them. She enjoyed bingo, singing and listening to music. Her other source of wonder and joy was finding shapes in patterns in clouds and trees, gleefully finding a ”teddy bear” or a “dog” or a “little girl’s head” and sharing that find with whomever she was with.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Kay Graham Chapman and her brother, H. D. Bowick. She is survived by her extended family, including son-in-law, Raymond M. Chapman, Judith Lynne Chapman (Ray’s sister) and Dara Houliston (Ray’s wife), who provided loving care and support through some very difficult times.
Memorial donations may be made to Asbury-St. James United Methodist Church.
