Erma Lindsey Steinmeyer Grooms, 93, of Summerville, South Carolina, widow of Sidney S. Grooms and William H.H. Steinmeyer, entered into eternal rest Monday, May 12, 2014. Her funeral service will be held Thursday, May 15, 2014 in Second Presbyterian Church, 342 Meeting Street, Charleston, at 2:00 pm. Interment, Magnolia Cemetery . The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, SC 29414. A memorial service will follow at a later date at The Village At Summerville, Presbyterian Home.

Erma was born April 15, 1921, in Atlanta, Georgia, daughter of James C. Lindsey and Erma Bass Lindsey. She was a former SC State PTA President and was honored as an honorary member. She also served several years as a Girl Scout leader. She was a Past President of the Charleston Association of Insurance Women. She held many positions with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra League Board. She was honored with a CSOL Achievement Award and was an honorary member since 2004. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of many community organizations. While living at The Village At Summerville, she enjoyed playing canasta, and volunteering at The Village until her hospitalization. She enjoyed the many friendships she established throughout her lifetime and always had a smile for everyone.

She is survived by her four children, Susan Sanders (Edward) of Charleston, William H. H. (Bill) Steinmeyer, Jr. (Susie) of Charleston, Ann Nichols (Charlie) of Chapin, SC and Nancy Beam (Keith) of Charleston; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

We would like to thank the staff at The Village for all their love and care which they continuously showed Mom.
