Emory Spear Crosby, Jr., 87, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Carolyn James Crosby, entered into eternal rest Friday, July 10, 2015. His Memorial Service will be held Monday, July 13, 2015, at Ashley River Baptist Church, 1101 Savannah Hwy, at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends in the church from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Emory was born January 17, 1928 in Georgetown, SC, son of the late Emory Spear Crosby, Sr., and Maude Altman Crosby. He served in the United States Navy as a corpsman during WWII. Emory attended Furman University and College of Charleston. He received his BS degree from Western Kentucky University and his PhD from Clemson University. He was a professor at The Citadel for more than twenty years and served as faculty advisor for the Rod and Gun Club. He loved music and sang in and directed various church choirs. He also enjoyed shrimping, hunting, fishing, metal detecting, and spending time at the beach.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Crosby of Charleston, SC; daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Armstrong (Fletcher) of Knoxville, TN; son, John Crosby of Charleston, SC; grandson, Chad Armstrong of Knoxville, TN; sister, Betty Spieler of Charlotte, NC, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Sybil Cone.
