Emogene Allen Christie, 89, of Johns Island, South Carolina, wife of the late, William Rahn Christie, Jr. entered into eternal rest Saturday, December 3, 2022. Her funeral service will be held at the graveside, Saturday, December 10, 2022, in St. John's Episcopal Churchyard, 3673 Maybank Highway, Johns Island, SC at 10:00 am. The family will receive friends Friday, December 9, 2022 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, SC from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Emogene was born October 15, 1933 in Loris, South Carolina, daughter of the late Henry Otto Allen and the late Fannie Ludie Hardee Allen. She had five siblings, including Henry, Lee, Dale, and Joe Allen, and Frances Love. She grew up in Charleston and attended Ashley River Baptist Church. After graduating from St. Andrew’s High School, she married William Rahn Christie Jr. (d. 1996), and lived on John’s Island. She worked in the insurance field for Schachte and Sons, then the Hollings Agency. For years she was active with the FootLight Players theatre group and enjoyed traveling with friends. She was a member of the Daughters of the Holy Cross and St. John’s Parish Church. She enjoyed friendships that lasted many decades, including her “insurance girls,” “St. John’s ladies,” and high school “lunch bunch.”
She is survived by daughter, Carolyn Christie Manzi of Charleston, SC; son, William Rahn Christie, III, of Winston Salem, NC; and grandchildren, Joseph Manzi, Gillian Manzi, Jacob Manzi, Davis Christie, and Eva Christie. Although predeceased by nephews Steven and John Love, she leaves behind her beloved sister Frances Love of St. Petersburg, FL; nephew James Love and family; brother Joe Allen and niece Debbie Allen; niece Carrie Allen; and grandnieces Caitlyn and Joy Love.
Memorials may be made to Lowcountry Food Bank or Queen Street Playhouse Footlight Players.
