Emma Jane Sumner

Emma Jane Darling Sumner, 84, of North Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Elijah Lamar Sumner entered into eternal rest Wednesday, September 19, 2018. Her Funeral Service will be held Monday, September 24, 2018 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens.

Emma was born March 1, 1934, in Worcester, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Henry Otis Darling and Jane Singleton Darling. She loved going to bingo with her friends and enjoyed sewing. Emma also enjoyed her family and attending her great-grandchildren's sporting events.

She is survived by her two daughters, Eleanor S. Aldrich of North Charleston, SC, and Gayle S. Bromley of North Charleston, SC; three grandchildren, Ronald L. Sumner of Summerville, SC, Paula J. Babich (Michael T.) of North Charleston, SC, and Brandon L Aldrich of North Charleston, SC; seven great-grandchildren, Savannah, Katelynn, Hunter, Landon, Joshua, Jacob and Olivia; sister, Edith Birdsall (Donald) of CA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two sons, Alan L. Sumner, Duane Sumner and son-in-law, Steven J. Bromley.
