Emily Gladden Vaughn

January 23, 1920 — August 15, 2010

Entered into eternal rest at The Methodist Oaks, Orangeburg, SC, August 15, 2010, Emily Gladden Vaughn, widow of Julian T. Vaughn, born in Charleston, SC, January 23, 1920.  She was a daughter of John and Mary Leopold Gladden.  She was a graduate of North Charleston High School.  She had been a member of Cherokee Place United Methodist Church since she was 11 years old and a member of the choir since she was 16 years old.  She was a member of the Boone Bowen Bible Sunday School class, a member of the Anita Way Circle and the first woman to serve on the Trustees Committee.


She is survived by a sister, Mable G. Nave of Algood, TN; four nieces, Mrs. Lillian Walters, North Charleston, SC, Mrs. Joyce Brinkley of North Charleston, SC, Mrs. Betty Hamilton of Goose Creek, SC, and Mrs. Linda (Ernest) Heape of Orangeburg, SC; three nephews, Mr. O. L. Jay of James Island, SC, Mr. William Nave of Algood, TN, and Mr. J. J. Gladden of Moncks Corner, SC; many great and great great nieces and nephews; and a special extended family member, Mr. Robert Gerber of North Charleston, SC.  She was also a "substitute Grandmother" to a number of special children who will sorely miss her.


Funeral services will take place at Cherokee Place United Methodist Church on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. and visitation one hour before the service at 10 a.m.  Memorials may be made to Cherokee Place United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 70396, North Charleston, SC 29406 or The Methodist Oaks/Residence Assistance Fund, 1000 Methodist Oaks Drive, Orangeburg, SC  29116.
