Emily Louise Meacham Padgett

Emily Louise Meacham Padgett, 96, widow of H.D. Padgett, Sr. of Sullivan's Island, SC died December 25, 2010. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at Sullivan's Island Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens.  ARRANGEMENTS BY J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.  The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Emily was born July 10, 1914, in Fort Mill, SC, the daughter of the late Samuel Lewis Meacham, Sr. and Bessie Parks Boyd Meacham. A graduate of Winthrop University, she was a former school teacher and faithful member of Sullivan's Island Baptist Church.  Throughout her years of dedication to the church, she taught in the Sunday School programs at several Baptist churches from the time she was thirteen years old, served for several years as Principal of the Bible School, worked with the youth, was former director of BYU, and was a member and dedicated officer of the Women's Missionary Union.  One of Emily's greatest joys was serving as the church organist and choir director for more than a quarter of a century.  Throughout her life, Emily positively impacted the lives of a tremendous number of people through her commitment to others.

Mrs. Padgett is survived by her son, H. Duncan Padgett, Jr. of Goose Creek, SC; her daughter, Gayle P. McCullough and her husband, Thad of Mt. Pleasant, SC; her seven grandchildren:  Hansford Duncan Padgett, III, John Samuel Padgett, Alicia Marie Callahan, Amanda M. Soffera, T. Graham McCullough, III, Joel P. McCullough, and Andrew D. McCullough; nineteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, H.D. Padgett, Sr.; her brother, Samuel Lewis Meacham, Jr.; and her sister, Mary Elizabeth Meacham Padgett.
