Emily Gail Lykins

Emily Gail Shuman Lykins, 77, of York, Pennsylvania and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, SC and wife of the late Daniel Paul Lykins, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at The Haven at Springwood Nursing Home in York, PA. The relatives and friends of Emily Gail Lykins are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Thursday, September 29, 2011 in the First United Methodist Church, Isle of Palms at 11:00 am.  Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 in J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL from 6:00 until 8:00 and at a reception after the interment from 1:00 until 3:00 pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Lykins was born on June 11, 1934 in Winter Haven, Florida, daughter of the late Leland Jackson Shuman and Ida Richards Dye Shuman.  She worked as a Dental Assistant in Florida.  After she and Dan were married in 1958, they lived in Gainesville, FL and then settled on the Isle of Palms and raised 4 children.  She held several jobs while raising her family, the last of which was working for The Pelican Cleaners and retiring in 2003. She is survived by her three sons, Paul Lykins and his wife, Mary Ann, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Marc Lykins of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Pepper Lykins and his wife, Angela of St. Mary's, GA; one daughter, Salatha Lykins Evers and her husband, Jeff, of York, PA; four grandchildren, Joe Lykins of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Hannah and Elliot Lykins of St. Mary's, GA and Sam Evers of York, PA, and a niece, Kelly Rees Coleman and her husband Wade of La Place, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made The First United Methodist Church, 12 21st Avenue, Isle of Palms, SC  29451.
