Elwin J. Wolfe

October 12, 1926 — August 30, 2011

EMCM Elwin J. Wolfe, USN Ret., 84, of Charleston, SC, husband of Eleanor Rice Wolfe, died Tuesday, August 30, 2011, peacefully at home.


Born October 12, 1926 in Toledo, Ohio he was the son of Willard Wolfe and Effie Rader Wolfe.  His decorated 30 year Naval career included service during WWII, Korea and the Vietnam War.  He retired as Master Chief Petty Officer.  E.J. was a member of the Fleet Reserve Branch 50, American Legion Post 160 and D.A. V. Chapter 77.  His second career was at the Charleston Naval Shipyard as an electrician. He attended the College of Charleston.   


Mr. Wolfe is survived by his wife of 53years, Eleanor Wolfe; son, Kevin Snyder and his wife Mary of Charleston, SC; three daughters:  Lori Inglis and her husband Ed of Charleston, SC, Bonnie Gardner and her husband Scott, and Susan Shiver and her husband Bob, all of Summerville, SC; brother, Jerry Wolfe of Attica, OH; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  His son Dennis Sutherland preceded him in death.


The funeral service will be held in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTH AREA CHAPEL, 2119 Dorchester Road, Friday, September 2, 2011 at 11:00 AM.  Interment with military honors to follow at Riverview Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends in Stuhr's North Area Chapel Thursday, September 1, 2011 between 6:00 and 8:00PM.
