Elsie Bair Smith

Elsie Bair Smith, 91, of Charleston, SC, died Thursday, October 13, 2016. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, October 22, 2016 in the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, 1425 Mt. Tabor Road, Bowman, SC at 11:00 am with a visitation one hour prior in the church. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, October 21, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., North Area Chapel, 2119 Dorchester Road, North Charleston, SC.

Elsie was born October 10, 1925 in Orangeburg County, SC, daughter of the late James Tucker Wynns and the late Bertha Myers Wynns Wilson. She was a graduate of Branchville High School. Elsie was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in North Charleston for over 50 years and a member of the choir for 30 years.

She is survived by her special friend, Madison Holiday, of Charleston, SC; her daughter, Brenda Bair Thomas Droze (Bill) of James Island, SC; son, Capt. William F. Bair USAF Ret. (Brenda) of Summerville, SC; stepdaughter, Lori Smith Wade Spencer (Scott) of Charleston, SC; stepson, Fred D. Smith, Jr. (Jo) of Wadmalaw Island, SC; two sisters, Bernice Tanner of Columbia, SC and Doris Berry of Bowman, SC; three grandchildren: Ann Marie Hickman (Tim) of James Island, SC, Tisha Marie Bair Thompson (John) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Joseph Alan Bair (Lisa) of Panama City, FL; step-grandchildren: Tara LaFaye Wade and her children, Sean and Bella, of Charleston, SC, Amber Nicole Echtle (James) of HI, Travis Wade (Emily) of San Antonio, TX; great-grandchildren: Bryanna Hickman, T. J. Hickman of Charleston, SC, Taylor Marie Thompson of Ft. Walton Beach, FL and T. J. Nicewonder of Panama City, FL. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Wilford C. Bair and Fred David Smith; sisters, Thelma Thompson and Irene Bacot.
