Elnora Catherine Barrera, 86, of Summerville, SC, wife of Joel E. Barrera, died Thursday, July 17, 2014. Her memorial service will be held Monday, July 21, 2014, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston, SC 29406, at 2:30 p.m.
Mrs. Barrera was born October 13, 1927 in Charleston, SC, daughter of the late Joseph Preston Beard and the late Annie Rebecca Droze. She retired from Edwards Department Store and worked with the Head Start Program.
She is survived by her husband, Joel E. Barrera of Summerville; three daughters, Anna Bowling (John) of North Charleston, SC, Vanessa Davis (Charlie) of Hanahan, SC and Nettie Elnora Avery of Hanahan, SC; son, Michael Roy Nelson (Claudia) of Summerville, SC; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her son, William Joseph Nelson Jr. and daughter, Eva Cecelia Jones
