Ella Rue Lucas Dunn Buckheister, 91, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of H.E. "Dutch" Buckheister, Jr. entered into eternal rest Monday, February 1, 2021. Her graveside service will be held Friday, February 5, 2021 in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 am. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Ella Rue was born November 28, 1929 in Conway, South Carolina, daughter of the late John Peter Dunn and Bertha Belle Causey Dunn. She grew up in Conway, SC, the youngest of 10 children in a farming family. She was a registered nurse and graduated from the Roper School of Nursing, class of 1949. Her nursing career included both private and floor duty. She worked for many years at Roper Hospital and the Charleston County Hospital Crippled Children's Unit and retired from the Red Cross. She was a member of Hibben United Methodist Church. Ella Rue was a gifted gardener who especially enjoyed growing vegetables. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, and crocheting blankets for everyone. Ella Rue was also a talented storyteller.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, H.E. "Dutch" Buckheister, Jr.; two sons, Kenny Buckheister (Bill) of Charleston, J. Wesley Buckheister (Abbie) of Mt. Pleasant; daughter-in-law, Jan Woods Buckheister of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Katie B. Payne (Brandon), Brian Austin, H.E. "Ward" Buckheister, IV (Danielle), W. Davis Buckheister (Lori), E. Abrams Buckheister, J. Tyler Buckheister (Nicole) and J.W. "Bryce" Buckheister (Landon); as well as 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen Buckheister Sanderlin and son, H.E. "Beasy" Buckheister, III.
