Elizabeth Wright Smith Wilson

May 26, 1918 — September 8, 2012

Elizabeth Smith (Betty) Wilson entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 8, 2012. Betty was born in Charleston, SC on May 26, 1918, daughter of Dr. William Atmar Smith and Gertrude Wright Smith. She was a lifelong member of Grace Episcopal Church where she served on many committees, including the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Junior League of Charleston and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Theodore Lesesne (Lit) Wilson, her sister, Mary Atmar Johnson of Georgetown, SC, and her brother, Dr. Charles Capers Smith of Charleston, SC. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Elizabeth W. Bradley of Vail, CO, Mary W. Lewis of Greensboro, NC and Nancy W. Collins and her husband Frank S. Collins, III of Mt. Pleasant, SC. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Courtney C. Agosti of Charleston, SC, Laura L. Handy (Michael) of Greensboro, NC, F. Stokes Collins, IV (Beth) of Fort Worth, TX, J. Weston Lewis III (Mary Margaret) of Atlanta, GA and W. Andrew Lewis of Houston, TX. In addition, she is survived by 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was a "beautifier" of all things and places that she came into contact with. She brought so very much love into the lives of her large extended family and her countless friends. She was known around the country for her Sour Cream Pound cakes. She will be greatly missed by so many.

The family extends special thanks to the angels of the ICU at Roper/St. Francis, Mt. Pleasant, and also to the nurses and doctors of Hospice Center of Charleston, Mt. Pleasant. Thank you ever so much, Family and Friends, for all the love, support and generosity shown during this time.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Betty's life will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 11:00 am. Due to Grace Church's sanctuary being closed, the service will be held at Mt. Zion AME Church, 5 Glebe St., Charleston, SC. ARRANGEMENTS BY J. HENRY STUHR INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 14, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the home of Nancy and Frank Collins, 574 Chimney Bluff Drive, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.

Memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 98 Wentworth St., Charleston, SC 29401 and/or Water Missions International, 2049 Savannah Hwy, Charleston, SC 29407.
