Elizabeth Louise Whisenand, 90, passed away Friday, December 10, 2021 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Her funeral service will be held Thursday, December 16, 2021 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet friends at the chapel immediately following the service.
Mrs. Whisenand was born on November 5, 1931 in Sumter, SC to the late John McKinley and Meta Barr Deas. She was one of seven children, five sisters and one brother. Elizabeth graduated from Hanahan High School and earned an Associate's degree in Administration from Trident Technical College. She married Clinton Mazon Carter in 1947 and raised four children together. After raising her children, Elizabeth started her career at the Medical University of South Carolina as an Administrative Assistant where she met her second husband, Dr. Jay Whisenand. Elizabeth retired from MUSC after 32 years of service and spent her days enjoying time with her family. Mrs. Whisenand lived for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a big heart, always put her family first and never let anyone leave with an empty stomach.
Mrs. Whisenand is survived by her two sisters: Janet and Patricia; her four children: David, Beth, Mark and Meta; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
