Elizabeth Tyson Sosnowski, 93, of Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina, widow of Dr. J. Richard Sosnowski entered into eternal rest Monday, June 12, 2017. Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 16, 2017 in St. Michael's Church, 71 Broad Street at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Elizabeth was born February 13, 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland, daughter of the late James Wood Tyson and Harriett Berry Tyson. She attended William and Mary and was a graduate of Women's Hospital School of Nursing. Elizabeth was an active member of St. Michael's Church. She loved gardening and served as President of the Junior League of Charleston from 1961-1963. Elizabeth was on the board of directors for the origination of Hospice of Charleston and was also a member of the Thursday Club. She will be remembered for her seeking faith and dedication to her Lord Jesus Christ, and for her unwavering faithfulness and love for her husband, Richard and for her family. Elizabeth was endowed with a gift of hospitality, opening her home and her heart to friends well known and to those recently met. She was a gracious lady and a welcoming presence to people from across the Atlantic, to newcomers met on Sunday mornings, from British bishops to Lowcountry locals.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Tyson Sosnowski of Atlanta, GA; two sons: Reverend John S. Sosnowski (Patti) of Sumter, SC and Chris Sosnowski of Wadmalaw Island; four grandchildren: Liza S. McDaniel, Trish S. Lawrence (Newman), Cory S. Prescott (Corey) and Anna S. Finch (Parker); and two great-grandchildren: Allen S. McDaniel and Grace Elizabeth Prescott.
