Elizabeth Irene Smoak

Elizabeth Irene Ackerman Smoak, 91, of Hollywood, SC, entered into eternal rest Thursday, November 14, 2019. Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, November 22, 2019 in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. Interment will follow in Christ-St. Paul's Parish Churchyard, Hollywood, SC.

Irene was born December 21, 1927 in Cleveland, TN, daughter of John Minnis and Mary Jackson Minnis. Irene grew up in Chattanooga, TN. She married Wendell Ackerman and moved to Hollywood, SC. It was there that she reared her family and created many lifelong memories as a devoted wife, mother and faithful Christian. Following the death of her husband, she married Mendel Smoak.

She is survived by her two sons, Dale Ackerman (Debbie) of Charleston, SC and John Ackerman (Valerie) of Summerville, SC; daughter, Kimberly Spooner (David) of Kamuela, HI; four sisters, Virginia Gleffe of Rossville, GA, Wanda Varnes of Knoxville, TN, Carolyn Manning of Chattanooga, TN and Judy Mercer of Chattanooga, TN; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Wendell Ackerman and Mendel Smoak, her brother, James Robert Minnis and sister, Agnes Norwood.
