Entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of November 8, 2011, Elizabeth Burnett Smoak Monahan, first married to the late John D. Smoak and widow of Leonard J. Monahan. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Friday, November 11, 2011 at 10:00 am. Interment in Bethany Cemetery will be private. The family will receive friends following the service.
Mrs. Monahan was born June 25, 1923 in Charleston, SC, the daughter of William F. Burnett and Dorothea Scharff Burnett. She was a graduate of Memminger High School and retired as a teller with Citizens and Southern Bank. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by one son: John D. "Jerry" Smoak (Sue); two daughters: Joyce Smoak Reeves (Charles) and Carol Smoak Patrick (Dick): nine grandchildren: John Smoak, III (Angie), David Reeves (Sherry), Jeffery Reeves (Beth), Nancy Reeves Schwacke, Michael Patrick (Stacy), Mark Patrick (Ashleigh), Dr. Mathew Patrick (Jill) all of Charleston, SC, Lt. Baxter Smoak (Lauren) of Port Neches, TX and Paul Patrick (Laura) of Columbia, SC; and nine great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church "Pre-School", 1157 Sam Rittenberg Blvd., Charleston, SC 29407.
