Elizabeth Wertz Compton Haglund

Elizabeth Wertz Compton Haglund, 91, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Ernest Sebastian Compton, Jr. and Edward James Haglund entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 29, 2013. Her graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 3, 2013 in the Good Hope Baptist Churchyard, 1738 Greenwood Hwy., Saluda, SC at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the residence. Mrs. Haglund was born February 24, 1922 in Saluda, South Carolina, daughter of Forrest Emmanuel Wertz and Ida Ann Cogburn Wertz. Beth was married to Ernest Compton for over 50 years. Together they provided a loving home for their children and their grandchildren. They were very active at Ashley River Baptist Church, where Beth taught Sunday School and was known and loved by many. After Ernest's passing, Beth enjoyed a happy but brief life with Jim Haglund in Greenwood, SC. For the last seven years, she lived in Charleston, SC where her children loved and cared for her. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Compton Ravenel (Dan) of Charleston, SC; two sons, Ernest S. "Tripp" Compton, III and Forrest W. Compton, both of Charleston, SC; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Howe Ravenel and Ruth Marie Ravenel (Christopher Michael Welch); one grandson, Daniel Ravenel; one sister, Ruth W. Goff (Herman) of Saluda, SC; also many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Ashley River Baptist Church, 1101 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC 29407.
