Elizabeth Zeigler Swaim Connell

March 25, 1937 — August 19, 2018

Elizabeth Zeigler Swaim Connell "Betty", 81 of Savannah, GA passed away peacefully Sunday, August 19th holding the hands of her children.

Born March 25, 1937 in Salisbury NC, Betty was the daughter of the late Clay Samuel and Barbara Zeigler Swaim also from Salisbury, NC. Betty graduated from Salisbury High School in 1955, married her precious Gene in 1957 and lived her life devoted to her three children Kelly, Susan and Doug, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren - but especially to the love of her life of 60 years -"Poppie".

Nannie, as she was called by all of us, was a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She loved nature, being outside tending her flower gardens, the many rescued animals she brought into our lives, and truly loved being with her family. Her love, silly wit, boundless energy and sunny smile will always be remembered and treasured.

Those left to cherish her memory are daughters Kelly Connell Gasque and husband Michael Gene Gasque; Susan Connell Galvin and husband Michael Jeffrey Galvin; son Eugene Douglas (Doug) Connell, Jr. and wife Angie Rogers Connell; grandchildren Rachel Connell (and Joseph Ardrey), Morgan Connell (and Rob Muller), Ashley Wilkes, Alex Grayson, Sam Grayson, Spencer Gasque, Travis Gasque, Brendon Galvin, and Kyle Galvin (and Audrey Long); son-in-law Austin Wilkes, daughter-in-laws Nicole Thomas Grayson and Courtney Galvin; Spencer's love Taylor Post and great grandchildren Lucy Kate and Jack Douglas Wilkes.

We are comforted in the blessing that Nannie and Poppie are together again "in Clover" and we are rejoicing in the wonderful life they shared with all of us.

To follow her wishes, there will be no service, rather a private family celebration of Nannie and Poppie. To honor Nannie's love of nature, the family will be planting trees in our gardens to have this love with us always.

We will always all be together.
