Elizabeth "Beth" Jenkins DeVane

Elizabeth “Beth” Jenkins DeVane, 90, passed peacefully into Eternal Life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 17, 2024. She was born July 13, 1933 as Elizabeth Simons Jenkins, in Littleton, NC, where her father served as a Presbyterian pastor. However, she grew up in Fayetteville, NC where she met the love of her life, Thomas “Tom” Ashford DeVane, Jr. Together, they raised their family in Charlotte, NC, where she earned a master’s degree in counseling at UNC-Charlotte and spent many years as a counselor to the students at Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing. She was beloved to many students during that time. She spent the last 20 years of her life in Mt. Pleasant, SC, in the Franke at Seaside Community and worshipped at Church of the Holy Cross, Sullivan's Island, SC. Beth built many long-lasting friendships throughout her life, as she truly enjoyed being with people.

She is predeceased by her loving husband, Tom; her parents, Rees and Betty Jenkins; her two brothers, Rees Jenkins, Jr. and Arthur Jenkins; and her daughter-in-law, Marla (Charles). She is survived by her children, Ashford DeVane (Kelly) of Fuquay Varina, NC, Charles DeVane of North Grafton, MA, Elizabeth “Betsy” DeVane Keesler (Rick) of Waldorf, MD, and Catherine DeVane Warner (Chris) of Occoquan, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Thomas DeVane, IV, Alexander DeVane, Katherine DeVane Brown (Matt), Emily DeVane Pauley (Justin), Matthew DeVane, Elizabeth “Elie” Keesler Landrum (Ben), Julia Keesler, Anna Warner, Caroline Warner, and Nathan Warner. Additionally, Beth was blessed with four great-grandchildren, Ophelia DeVane, Elliott and Lucy DeVane Brown, and Mahaley Landrum.

Beth left a legacy of stalwart faith and unending devotion to Christ our Lord, such that her children and grandchildren follow in her footsteps in his service. Although she had many struggles in her lifetime, the Lord used her life as a vital testimony of His unending love, deep care and never-failing support. It is for that testimony we are eternally grateful.
