Elizabeth Ann "Liz" Huggins Barrow

Elizabeth Ann "Liz" Huggins Barrow 85 of Charleston, SC passed away peacefully at Medical University on August 2, 2023. She was born on June 6, 1938 in Andrews, SC, the daughter of the late Frederick B. Huggins Senior and Willie Stringer Huggins. 

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Melvin Barrow of Charleston, SC. She is survived by her brother, Frederick B. Huggins Jr. (Mary Frances Huggins) of Charleston, SC; Her long time friend and beloved caregiver, Elizabeth Northrup of Charleston, SC; and numerous cousins.

Liz graduated with honors from Andrews High School and Coker College, class of 1961. In 1962 she received her degree in Medical Technology from Medical University of SC College of Health Professions. She worked in Special Chemistry lab of Clinical Pathology as a supervisor and she taught medical students until she retired after 32 years. 

Liz was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she served as a past president of the Colonel Lewis Sunday School class and was a member of Lambuth McEldowney Circle.      

Liz loved sports and was quite athletic. She was an avid and excellent swimmer.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at J. Henry Stuhr West Ashley Chapel at 11:00 am. 3360 Glenn McConnell Pkwy. Charleston, SC 29414. 

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Bethel United Methodist Church. 57 Pitt Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
