Elizabeth Ann Martin Newcombe

February 4, 1952 — September 13, 2021

Liz Newcombe, beloved sister and aunt, devoted wife and daughter, passed away Monday, September 13.

Liz grew up on the Philadelphia Main Line in Bryn Mawr and Berwyn, PA. She graduated from Conestoga Senior High, then earned her undergraduate degree in theatre from NC Wesleyan College and her master's in costume design from Ohio University.

A talented artist, Liz excelled as a painter and seamstress, crafting original clothing and costume designs and fashioning marvelous crafts. She shared her talents by volunteering at area nursing homes. There was little that Liz couldn't build or make. She could even twirl a flaming baton.

For decades, Liz worked for the Charleston County Library, where she aided grateful patrons in genealogy searches, preserved historical records, repaired books, and served the public with a smile and her encyclopedic mind.

Most of all, Liz defined herself as a caregiver, tending her parents and husband faithfully. She remained generous to family, neighbors, and her community.
She is survived by her brother, Terry Martin (Susan); her sister, Nancy Martin-Young (Dan); her niece, Sarah Young (Krystle); nephews, Zander Martin, Dylan Young (Kristen), Danny Young (Katie), and Tim Young; and great-niece, Opal Young.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Grace and A.J. Martin of Isle of Palms and her husband, Steven Newcombe.

A celebration of Liz's life will be held Saturday, October 2nd at 2:00 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 300 Palm Blvd., Isle of Palms, SC 29451.

Those who remain behind wish Liz peace and happy reunion with those who have passed before, trusting she will discover that joy cometh in the morning.
