Elizabeth (Betty) Greig Adams, 94, of Columbia,SC, died on Friday, December 28, 2012. She was the widow of the late Daniel Otis Adams.
Mrs. Adams was born on October 21, 1918, and was the daughter of the late Cristina Forsyth Greig and William Greig.
Also predeceasing her was her sister, Cristina Greig Sluss, and a brother, Thomas Greig.Prior to relocating to Columbia to be closer to family, she lived in Charleston for 49 years.Betty graduated from Longwood College with a degree in elementary education. After graduation, she returned to her hometown, Covington, Virginia, where she taught elementary school. She met her future husband, Dan, in Covington where they lived until a job transfer brought them to Charleston.
She was a member of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church for 49 years.
She was a member of the Preservation Society, Friends of Drayton Hall, The Charleston Museum, the Garden Club of Charleston, and the Benevolent Society.
She was a docent for the Charleston Historic Foundation for many years.
She is survived by her four daughters, Jane Harwood of Columbia, SC, Susan Howard and her husband, Vaughan, of Gloucester, VA, Ann Adams and her husband, Steve Moreno, of Fairfield, CA, and Nancy Stelling and her husband, Don, of Greenwood, SC.Grandchildren include Jennifer Howard Camp (husband John), and Scott Howard (wife Kristen), Justin Moreno, and Catherine and Alison Stelling.
She had two great grandchildren, Sophia and Madeline Camp.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 5 at 1:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 232 Calhoun Street .Burial will be private.
