Elise Macmurphy Cart Robertson, 104, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Charles Neyle Robertson, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, June 3, 2014. Her funeral service will be held Thursday, June 5, 2014, in The Chapel at Bishop Gadsden at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 4, 2014, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Elise was born January 3, 1910 in Charleston, one of six children of William Porter Cart and Hermine Leiding Cart. She attended Memminger High School and Rice Business School. Mrs. Robertson was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her son, Arthur Joye Jenkins (Sarah Ann) of Charleston; her daughter, Joye Jenkins Chambers (Henry) of Beaufort, SC; step-daughter, Carol R. Weil (Richard) of Atlanta, GA; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth B. Byrd; five grandchildren: Henry Laurens Pinckney Smith, Jr., Ann Stuart Jenkins, Arthur Joye Jenkins, III, Elizabeth B. Brignac (Eric) and Caroline B. Christman (Alex); two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, William Porter Cart, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Joye Jenkins; her second husband, Colonel Ralph Milledge Byrd; her son, Rev. Ralph M. Byrd Jr.; two granddaughters, Joye Jenkins Smith Jordan and Elise Seabrook Smith; and four sisters.
